DJ-Mel

So hot. That’s the first thing you think when you catch a glimpse of DJ Melissa ‘Mel’ Reeves. And if you don’t, well...who are we kidding? So it isn’t surprising to find out that DJ Mel, is a model as well. But there’s a whole lot more to this UK-based siren than meets the eye. The 21-year-old is already also a singer-songwriter and music producer in the works. When the idea to DJ came along — she sold her car just to afford good decks! And the sacrifice has paid off - big time.

Talking to CE in between flights, courtesy her Kingfisher Ultra SOUL FLYP tour of India, this PYT tells us how she plans to get the party started in Chennai.

Indie in India

Yes, I have been to India twice before this trip and I love every single city here!

Tour Talk

I have loved traveling to all of the different cities and seeing what the night life is like across India. Everyone seems to know their music really well here. On my night off, I had trouble sleeping because of the time difference back in the UK, so i was awake with the TV on and i heard bad thunder and lightening outside which scared me! Suddenly all the power got cut for a short while in the hotel. I didn’t go to sleep until day broke.

Jock Appeal

DJing isn’t something I actually planned on doing. I have always been into music for as long as I can remember. In 2011, a friend of mine called Ola Bean who is a very skilled DJ from the UK offered to give me a DJ lesson because i saw him play one night and took an interest to it. From my first lesson onward i have been completely addicted to it. I picked it up really quickly and knew it was something I would like to take further. I decided to take it up as a career but I knew I would need to practice so I had to sell my car to buy good decks!

Music Musing

Depending on where I am, I play different music. I focus mainly on commercial house but I really just play to please the crowd. I can go from playing commercial/progressive/deep house to playing R’n’B/HipHop.

Career Model-ling

I have always been into singing, and it’s something that I would love to take further in the future but for the time being I am focusing on my DJing. I’ve also recently started learning to produce my own music. I really would love to be able to play my own tracks and, who knows, maybe one day even sing on them.

Kolly Calling?

I have been catching a few Indian movies on the TV and I love them! If I ever got the opportunity to be involved in one I definitely wouldn’t say no. I saw an actor called Ranbir Kapoor…. He is quite good looking :)

Body Language

I am naturally quite slim. I don’t really watch what I eat but I do tend to have a good diet. I have my guilty pleasures which I can’t say no to — like Chocolate and french fries, I could practically live off this! I do like to exercise too and do some long distance runs outside because it relaxes me. So does going to the gym but this isn’t something that I do religiously. I tend to go through stages of wanting to be fit and healthy then being lazy and hungry.

Gig Alert

Chennai should be prepared for a very energetic, fun, experience. I will be playing songs that they all know, love and can sing along to. I may just throw a few Bollywood tracks in there too….!
