'Barfi!' opens to sugar sweet critical reviews

'Barfi!' opens in the theatres today. But critics have added to the already pulsing excitement of Anurag Basu’s latest directorial with their overwhelmingly rave reviews.

With an alliteration of words like masterpiece, memorable and magical peppering the reviews, one can’t help but feel like they’re missing out on something.

While Shilpa Jamkhandika of Reuters called it “a beautifully shot film in ages” as “each frame is picture-perfect and some are bound to induce a sigh or two”, Suparna Thombare of Bollywoodlife.com says, “the strength of the film is the nonlinear narration, raising your anticipation levels and making you curious about how the story is going to unfold”.

An apparently cleverly crafted story, Pooja Rao of Bollyspice.com claims “you get as involved in Barfi’s journey as all his fellow co-stars and you’re taken on this breezy ride with the right amounts of effervescence, leaving you with warmth in your heart”.

And it isn’t just the actors taking the glory.

Soumyadipta Banerjee of in.com lays the onus on Basu saying, “when everybody is busy making remakes of south films, thinking of a film like 'Barfi!' requires tremendous courage.”
