Politics Not the Only Way to Change Society: Aamir Khan

“I’m not shying away from politics; The political arena simply doesn’t excite me. And politics is not the only way to serve people,” said actor Aamir Khan, clarifying that he would rather be a concerned citizen than a political leader.

The Bollywood star was in the city for the promotional activities of the upcoming second season of his popular Television show ‘Satyamev Jayate’.

“Each of us has to make a lot of contribution to the society. And the responsibility of an entertainer is to build the moral fibre of the society and highlight values. I’m not shying away from politics; I’m happy about what I’m doing now,” he said.

The anchor-producer of the hugely successful programme told reporters here that the idea behind the show is to make the people of the country believe in their own power and utilise this power to forge a better society.

“In India, we are looking for messiah who will come and save us. We have to believe in ourselves and that each of us is a messiah. When we make our contributions to the society, changes will come; that’s when democracy emerges in its true sense,” Aamir pointed out.

He was answering a specific question on his political stand ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, and who’s his favourite between Prime Ministerial candidates Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi.

Elaborating on the experiences that people shared with him during the opening season of the show, Aamir said the entire run of the show was a huge learning experience.

“The attempt is to approach each issue with love, rather than aggression,” the actor said. Sharing the dais with Aamir at the press meet was actor Mohanlal, whom the Bollywood star referred to as an ‘amazing actor’.
