Mohit's Devi

Published on

When his pregnant wife, former actress Udita Goswami, first suggested the name Devi for a girl child (in case they had a daughter), Mohit Suri wasn’t very sure. He protested, “It’s a very old school name, we can’t call her that.” But today the director’s six-month-old baby is called just that! Mohit reveals the story behind the name. “I am not a religious person because I lost my mother when I was young,” he admits. “I don’t even know to pray, but while the shooting the climax of Hamari Adhuri Kahani, I suddenly started crying in the scene when Vidya Balan finally stands up for herself and Durga Mata is shown emerging behind her. The first thing I did was to call up Udita and tell her that we should name our daughter Devi.”  To his surprise, everyone who heard her name liked it. Mohit smiles, “HAK will always be a special film for me because my daughter was born during this film. I was just crying the first time I held her. My daughter shouts and screams but the way she looks at me is the best. Today, I realise why daughters are so special.”
