Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Calendar Girls’ not only took inspiration from business tycoon Vijay Mallya but also one his suggested Kingfisher Cabin-crew Akanksha Puri.
The movie features a number of newcomers such as Akanksha Puri, Avani Modi, Kyra Dutt and Ruhi Singh, among others. In an interview to Times of India, Akanksha said that she was interviewed by Vijay Mallya himself and was selected as a cabin crew for Kingfisher Airlines. “I find a lot of similarities between him and Madhur Bhandarkar sir.
Mr Mallya, apart from the usual questions, asked me what I liked about fashion, friends and whether I liked to go out, as against talking about just aviation. Much like that, Madhur sir came to know that I was from Indore and he started talking to me about Ujjain and Mahakal as he is a Shiv Bhakt,” she says in the interview.
Known for showcasing real life issues through his films, Bhandarkar previously said that the film is 75 percent real and 25 percent fictional and it is inspired by few (ex) calendar girls and photographers. Produced by Madhur Bhandarkar and Sangeeta Ahir, "Calendar Girls" is slated to release on September 25.
