Your sister Sanah (Pankaj Kapoor and Supriya Pathak’s daughter) is not only making her debut in your starrer Shaandaar but also has an entire song ‘Gulabo’ about her character.

Vikas (Bahl) cast my sister without my knowing it. He met her through Mukesh Chhabra, who is the casting director for the movie. I was shocked when Vikas called me and said that he had cast Sanah as Alia’s sister in the movie. In fact, I think, Alia and Sanah look more like siblings.

What did you gift your wife Mira on her birthday?

Shaandaa.jpgVikas presented her with a birthday gift, which was to show her Shaandaar. She has watched the film though I haven’t watched the film till now.

You are doing two films with Alia - Shaandaar and Udta Punjab. What makes your team click?

I don’t know what works in our favour. Before we got on board for this film, we had met once or twice and had not interacted much. We just got along well because she is an unassuming, wonderful person.

What are your thoughts on Alia’s bikini sequence in the film?

I know how uncomfortable Alia was wearing the bikini. It was freezing cold Alia could hardly pull down her dungarees. I was shivering because I was wearing a ganji and walking bare feet so I could imagine what Alia was going through. The beach at which we were shooting was like any other beach in Mumbai.
