After a break that has lasted over a year, Parineeti Chopra returns to the screen with a special appearance in Dishoom - she will be seen dancing alongside Varun Dhawan in the song ‘Jaaneman Aah.’ Flaunting her newly toned body, Parineeti reveals all about her comeback song, her thoughts during her hiatus and why she achieved her physical transformation.

From Ranveer to Arjun to Sidharth to Sushant, you have worked with them all. But how was it to work with Varun Dhawan for the first time in the Dishooom song?

Varun is so spontaneous ... he likes improvisation. He is so energetic. This song was a one-take song and we got two days to practice for the song. We both were perfect for this song.

Whose idea was it to include the kissing shot at the end of the song?

It was Varun’s idea that we should have a kiss at the end of the song. On the day of the shoot, Rohit (Dhawan, director of Dishoom) wasn’t there and Varun popped the idea. But this was not known to anyone on the sets including the dancers and Ahmed Khan (choreographer). When the kiss happened, everyone was shocked to see this addition.

What is the inspiration for this song?

The idea was to get that 1990s feel of Govinda and Karisma Kapoor for this song. We hope we have done justice to it.

You have lost a lot of weight recently. What advice would you give young other girls wanting to become fit?

Women dealing with post pregnancy weight or teenagers who are obese from across the world want to know my story. I am a fat-to-fit story. People need to be fit no matter what size they are. There are dancers in New York who are big but flexible. However, I was big and unfit. I was unhealthy, not chubby. I have struggled with my weight.

I took it upon myself to work towards fitness. There was also pressure from Bollywood to bring me on the right part. It took me a year-and-a-half to reach here ... I was in the gym; nowhere else. Now, I eat and sleep well. I am fit now.

Simultaneously, you also didn’t sign any new films for long. Did you miss seeing yourself on screen over the past one and a half year?

Of course I missed it. But see ... when I entered the film industry, I did four films back to back. I am not from films; I come from a different discipline and I have lived my life in a different way. I come from a different world of banking and academics but here I had to be in front of camera all the time and was under pressure.

I needed that emotional break. It may sound stupid - I am new and I need a break! But I really wanted it. I wanted to settle down. I just wanted to sort out some things. I wanted to work on my body. I wanted to wear shorts and better clothes and not worry about anything.

Would you say the break has been good for you?

Now I have this dedication and concentration towards my work because of the break. The one-year break was amazing.
