Is Priya engaged?

From our online archive

BANGALORE: Fortunately, or unfortunately, Priya Hasan, the actress-cum-director, always has the privilege of being in the limelight for one or the other reason.

Priya, who made her debut with the movie ‘Black and White’, was in the news when she decided to handle the megaphone for her movie ‘Jambada Hudugi’, a few years ago. She hogged the headlines again by garnering support by ‘Navarasa Nayaka’ Jaggesh when a theatre management decided to withdraw the screening of her movie.

Her second movie ‘Bindaas Hudugi’ also did not prove to be a bed of roses for Priya as its release was postponed due to ‘Super Star’ Rajnikant’s movie ‘Enthiran’. Distributor of ‘Bindaas Hudugi’ did not want to take a risk by releasing the movie on the same day when Rajnikant’s ‘Enthiran’ was released. Finally the movie was released at Triveni theatre but had to be shifted to Sapna after a few weeks. Priya was again in the news for protesting against the shift.

Now, Priya is in the limelight once again, not for her mistake or protest this time, but for her manager’s inability to understand the difference between the words — busy and engaged.

Instead of using the word ‘busy’ he opted for ‘engaged’. The result: Priya’s brother Mohan Gowda was upset due to the goof up. Gowda happened to see Priya’s Facebook and was surprised to see the status reading ‘Priya Engaged’.

Priya had to apologise to her brother and chide her manager for the mistake. “I used to get a number of messages on my Facebook account. My manager found it tough to answer all those messages. He asked me what to do. I told him to put a message stating that I am busy. Instead of using the word ‘busy’ he put up the word ‘engaged’. It was his mistake. I want to make it clear to my fans that I am yet to think about my marriage,” says Priya.
