Manasina Maathu: Fails to impress

From our online archive

BANGALORE: It is a re-make of the Tamil movie Roja Kootam. Director Ananth Raju, who handled the megaphone for movies such as Masth Majaa Maadi and Jaaji Mallige, has faithfully followed the original version with a little modification to the script.

The pre-intermission session will test on your patience. The audience have to depend on stale comedy by Sharan for a relief from monotonous narration.

As far as the performance of the artistes is concerned, there is nothing to revel about Ajay. He has no opportunity to showcase his acting skills in this movie when compared with his recent successful movie Krishnan Love Story. Aindrita Ray seems to be apathetic towards her assignment. Aindrita’s dancing skills are poor.

The movie is about Ajay (Ajay Rao) who has all qualities and good habits except education. Ajay’s father Thyagaraj (Avinash) and mother Saraswathi (Tara) want him to complete his graduation but in vain. As the last attmept, Ajay goes to the college to pay the exam fee. He happens to see Sahana (Aindrita Ray) at the college. Smitten by Sahana’s beauty, he falls in love with her.

Meanwhile, Sahana’s mother (Umashree), a police sub-inspector, takes a house beside Ajay’s house for rent. She quarrels with Ajay’s parents on petty issues.

Ajay’s father asks him to go to the exam centre in an autorickshaw. However, he chooses to follow an autorickshaw, in which Sahana was commuting, instead of going to the exam centre. He comes to know Sahana is the daughter of the police sub-inspector. He mistakes her gregariousness for love. He comes to know that she is in love with his friend Krishna who is leaving for the US for a job.

Sahana’s mother arranges her marriage with an affluent person but Ajay comes in her way. Umashree’s performance is not up to the mark. Tara has provided good support. Sharan and Satyajit try their best to make the audience giggle for a while. Make your way to the theatre if you have no other option.
