The first Kannada film shot on 5D camera, 'Ball Pen' is not just about life opening its eyes with no one around; its focus is on the life of orphans and director Shashikanth has narrated it by getting a group of 30 children from Nanda Gokula, an orphanage.
“I did three rounds of classes for the children before I started with the shoot. Our location was Hyati Mandaragi in Koppal village and the shooting was done in 35 days,” Shashikanth reveals.
The story is about few children brining out the issue of neglect by the elders, problems faced by farmers, poverty and superstition in rural areas.
“Ball pen revolves around Keshava, a newspaper delivery boy, who along with his two other friends decides to address the problems faced by the people in a village in north Karnataka. The story talks about how a father is ready to sacrifice his daughter to get compensation from the government,” explains the director.
The other highlight of Ball Pen is it is a ‘Green’ film. “Very eco-friendly with no trolley, no generator, no lights. It is the first Kannada film to be shot on 5D camera and transferred to 35 mm negative. CJ Rajkumar is the cinematographer.
Manikanth Kadri has scored the music,” says Shashikanth, which is his second film after IPC Section 500.
Being in a few competitions and also sent for the national award, this film has got wide appreciation by some of the bigwigs in the industry.
