Chamber Slaps Fine On Exhibitor Ranganath

Tiffs among filmmakers in the industry are nothing new. The latest altercation is between Prasad of Sammarth Ventures, who is the distributor of the film Adhyaksha, and exhibitor Ranganath of Arkavathi theatre, situated in Kanakapura. The incident took place at the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce on Monday evening, in the presence of all the members. “It happened in a fit of rage,” clarifies Prasad adding, “I would think twice even to kill a mosquito, but I lost my cool because Ranganath was cheating us for his own benefit.”

As per the report, in spite of Adhyaksha doing well, Ranganath presented a false account saying that the film only managed an average profit. He allegedly cheated the distributor by showing that only 76 tickets were booked and pocketed the remaining money. This came to Prasad’s notice when he asked Ranganath for the correct accounts. The matter was later taken to the Chamber where the fight occurred.

“I just wanted him to show me the correct accounts but he kept avoiding me. So I had to get the Chamber to intervene,” he says. The officials, after going through the case, have slapped a fine of `12 lakh on Ranganath. The amount has to be paid to Prasad as a penalty.
