No Ordinary Romance in Radhika Pandit’s Next Film

Radhika Pandit is on a roll.  With her latest film Bahaddur crossing its hundred day run, the consistent actress is equally hopeful about her next, Mr and Mrs Ramachari. The film directed by Santhosh Ananddaram is one of the most eagerly awaited releases of the year.

Among the few actresses who can boast of a dream debut with Moggina Manassu, which won her the Filmfare award for best actress and the Karnataka State Film Award, she definitely belongs to a rare breed who is consistent in her performances and well regarded by the industry. Radhika feels that the strong point of  Mr and Mrs Ramachari lies in treating love not just as an impulsive feeling, but a beautiful trait that builds foundations for strong relationships.

“Ramachari has all the basic requisites of an entertainer. But, personally, I liked the film because it emphasises the strength of relationships. It is not a conventional boy-meets-girl story which is disturbed by villains. Relationships are intense and Ramachari celebrates that intensity with sensitivity,” she says.

Mr and Mrs Ramachari will be her third film with Yash and the duo’s onscreen chemistry has been well accepted by the audience. “We both started off with Moggina Manasu followed by Drama. In fact, after Drama, we had lot of opportunities to work together but nothing concrete materialised. People like to see us both together and when Ramachari came through, we both felt that it was the ideal project for a hat-trick,” says Radhika.

Talking about her success mantra in Sandalwood so far, Radhika feels that she understands the significance of the commercial aspects of films and always ensures that her performance adds value to it. She says, “Bahaddur did good business and is still running. People are now waiting to watch Mr and Mrs Ramachari. However, I feel contented whenever a filmmaker comes up with a subject which requires a certain contribution from the heroine, especially in terms of value addition while keeping in mind the commercial point of view. And I think I have succeeded in that aspect which is why directors think of me for such roles.”

Radhika also states that while she has played a part in many romantic films, she has brought variations to each role. “Love is my favourite subject in its various shades. I don’t think, I am built for an action film,” she says.
