'My Devadas doesn't Drink'

The title Paaru w/o of Devadas has created a buzz among the Kannada audience and everyone is wondering whether this will be a romantic drama, or a film made on the character of Devadas. Director Kiran Govi says that he was inspired by the characters of the classic but not by the story. "I have a new story to tell with these characters, which I guess will be different from the old Devadas stories. Everyone knows that Devadas and Paaru were in love with each other but did not get married. Why not is the gist of my film," adds Kiran.

This film sees Soundarya as Paaru, Kitty as Devadas and Neha Patil as Chandramukhi. "Paaru in my film comes from an Iyengar family and is very reserved, and aims to be a journalist. Devadas, in the film, wants to become a singer. Both are shy and not able to express their love for each other. Neha Patil, a relative of Devadas, wants to marry him. This is a love triangle, told in flash back," he explains.

According to Kiran, Paaru... is a simple love story. "There is an interesting twist but the film doesn't end with a tragedy. Devadas in my film doesn't hold a bottle. He is simple and jovial," he chuckles.

Kitty and Soundarya are coming together for the first time. "Kitty is my friend and I always enjoyed watching his expressions on-screen. A lot of people auditioned. However, I chose Soundarya because she fits the role perfectly," says Kiran and adds that the film is an entertainer.

"It is not made for a particular type of audience. Paaru... can be watched by everybody," he says.

To create a curiosity among the audience, Kiran had only released the title and not revealed the story line. Only now he has started promoting the film. "I have not even allowed the crew to watch the film. I want to keep the surprise element alive," he says.
