Even as new directors keep entering the Kannada film industry everyday, everyone feels the pressure to come up with fresh stories but not all of them manage to move off the beaten track
Vinay Krishna, in his new venture as a director, is exploring a hitherto unexplored subject, which he has titled Seizer. The film starring Chiranjeevi Sarja and Parul Yadav in the lead roles, is a serious film that will raise the curiosity of audience members with its unique subject. “The story is about people who seize vehicles, when customers fail to make their monthly payments on time. Since, not everyone can handle defaulting customers, it sometimes ends up becoming a daring act to get the vehicle back from the owner,” Vinay says.
What is interesting about this story is that Vinay himself has gone through the experience of trying to recover collateral from defaulters, which he is now putting on screen. The debut director is also a businessman and up until 2006, was running a financial services company which mainly dealt with car seizing. Later, he switched to other businesses.
“My film will be a mix of realistic cinema and creativity,” he says. Vinay who is handling the story and screenplay has also taken up the responsibility of producing his own film. “I believe that freedom comes in direction when we have a free hand. Since this is quite a strong subject, I need that freedom and so I decided to put in my own money into the project. Also, I am trying my hand at direction after gaining few years of experience, working with a well-established director whose name I will reveal once I am all set to release Seizer,” he says.
The film was silently launched on Chiranjeevi’s birthday on October 17 and is officially going on floors from November 9.
“Chiranjeevi carries that rugged look and has a strong personality who fits this character. I went to him with the gist of my story and explained a few scenes from the film, which he found interesting,” says Vinay.
As for Parul’s role, Vinay says, “As for now, I can only reveal that she plays the character of a next-door girl. I cannot reveal any further details as it will give away the whole story. Along with Chiranjeevi and Parul, we also have Ravi Shankar and Ramesh Bhat. Avinash Divakar will be also be joining the team.”
Vinay along with Srikanth has written the dialogues for the film while Vishwes Shivprasad has been roped in as the cinematographer. The director has also given an opportunity to young music director Chandan Shetty for composing the music of this film. “Chandan’s previous compositions gave us that western feel. Since we thought that his style would match the theme of our story, we roped him.” he says. The crew has chosen Bengaluru, Kadri and Sabarimala for shooting locations. Chiranjeevi and Parul who are currently working for KM Chatainya’s Aatagara along with Meghana Raj have simulataneously alloted dates for Seizer.
