Looks like politicians’ sons are all the rage in Sandalwood this season. While HD Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Gowda and HM Revanna’s son Anup have announced their foray into films, former minister Cheluvarayaswamy’s son Sachin is the latest to join the bandwagon. He will debut in director Mahesh Sukhadhare’s Happy Birthday - Magane ayithe ninge, says the film’s tagline. To be produced under Sukhadhare’s home banner, the project was launched last week in the presence of stars like Ambareesh, Shivarajkumar, Darshan and Yash. The newbie spoke to City Express about his new -found love for films.

The idea of entering the film industry came about unexpectedly, says Sachin. However, he’s all set to jump in with both feet and give it his best shot. “It is too early to talk about competition. My focus is on showcasing my acting skills and getting noticed,” says Sachin.

The youngster is taking acting classes and draws inspiration from the stars of Sandalwood. “I learnt action from Darshan, dedication from Sudeep, style from Puneeth, perfection from Yash and energy from Shivarajkumar. Just by watching their films, I have learnt so many things at once,” he says.

Yash has known Sachin for eight years now and yet was surprised to know of his decision to act in films. “He wished me luck,” Sachin adds.

The film, launched on Friday, will go on floors in July. According to director Sukhadhare, actor and politician Ambareesh is the backbone of this film. “He will play a supporting role in Happy Birthday,” he says.

“The film will be set in Nagamangala and Mandya. It is a folk-based story and will feature the Dasara festivities. It is a raw subject  based on today’s youth. I was looking for a fresh face and Sachin fits the bill,” says Sukhadhare.

Sachin is gradually gaining confidence in front of the camera. “Initially, I had problems during the photoshoot. I am slowly getting used to the bright lights. I am working through it with lots of help from the director and it is helping me step out of my comfort zone,” he says.

Director Sukhadhare and Cheluvarayaswamy have been friends for 20 years and it turns out they have always wanted to do a film based in Mandya. “Fortunately for me, I visit the district often and am familiar with the local slang and body language,” he says. The female lead and the rest of the cast will be finalised soon.
