Director Suri and his team are back before finishing a schedule as rain hampers the shoot of Dodmane Huduga starring Puneeth Rajkumar and Radhika Pandit. “We could complete the portions in Hubballi over four days. We had a fight sequence at Hindalga Jail in Belagavi which was scheduled for three days but it could not take place at all due to rain. We have rescheduled our plans and will start shooting in Bengaluru from tomorrow and follow it up with Mysuru where we will shoot a few portions with Ambareesh for five days. We will be going back to Belagavi after rains,” he says.
Suri has completed 30 per cent of the talky portions. Talking to City Express, the director states that while he had worked with Puneeth before, he is glad to have Radhika Pandit, Sumalatha and Ambareesh in the cast. “Radhika is apt for the character as she plays a double role in the film. She perfectly justifies the two shades,” he says.
This time, Suri was upbeat also about working with a senior actor like Sumalatha.
“Though we see a certain dedication among young actors, it is nothing compared to the devotion senior actors have towards their work . Sumalatha is so involved with her character that she wouldn’t leave the sets till she is certain of perfection. The same goes with Ambareesh too,” he says.
Like many Kannada directors, Suri also felt that the real fans are outside the cosmopolitan multiplexes. He cites the example of the recent shoot at Hubli as fans assembled to watch the cast of Dodmane Huduga on all four days. “They would come at 9.30 am and would not leave till midnight. It is their enthusiasm that keeps us on toes. We may cater to the cosmopolitan Bengaluru but ‘ardent fans’ lie beyond the city. I want to make good films for them too,” he says.
Suri’s update
While Dodmane Huduga is progressing, Suri is gearing up for the release of Kendasampige. The film will soon go to the censors. “We are planning for a July release,” says Suri and adds, “Initially, I didn’t plan any songs for Kendasamgpige. But then I realised that songs were necessary and I picked up a poem written by Jayanth Kaikini. Even Yogaraj Bhat has written a song based on the story. The rerecording took time. There will be no delays as I have been hit financially,” he says.
