Priyamani on Puttanna

The actress has signed a series of films and all retell stories which were blockbusters in other South Indian languages

Actress Priyamani is reviewing her choices, having signed a series of remakes (except Dana Kayonu).

The actress will start the new year with Kathe, Chitrakathe, Nirdeshana Puttanna, a remake of Telugu film Geethanjali. Directed by Srinivas Raju, it will be her first attempt at horror comedy, which will have Komal in the lead.

The title and the posters of the film had created a controversy but according to Priyamani, it was just a misunderstanding. “The film has nothing to do with director Puttanna Kanagal as imagined by a section of people. The character of Komal in the film is an aspiring director and his role model is Puttanna,” she clarifies and adds that the moment Srinivas Raju approached her, she was glad to be part of the film.

“It is for the first time that I will be working with director Srinivas Raju and Komal. It is a horror comedy genre and something which I have never tried,” says the actress asserting that there is no romantic pairing with Komal. “Comedy is something which has already worked for Komal and I only hope it works again,” she adds.

Although, Srinivas Raju has been in the news for all the wrong reasons, especially for the title Shivam and now with Nati Koli, according to the actress, he comes across as a balanced person with a casual approach towards direction and knows what he wants. “The comedy and the situations might be similar to the Telugu version, but keeping the culture and local nativity, he has made a few changes. During the making, he is open to suggestions. I never saw him getting angry or upset. In fact, in between, I had date problems and he adjusted to my schedule,” she says.

The actress is currently busy with Kalpana 2, a remake of Kanchana 2, a film directed by Ananth  Raju in which she is paired opposite Upendra. “I have completed Dana Kayonu with Yogaraj Bhat and I am just left with a one-day shoot with Prakash Raj, who is directing the Malayalam remake of Shutter in Kannada,” says the actress, who has given her dates for another Malayalam film, which will start shoot from February.

Coming back to the small screen, Priyamani will be judging a dance reality show in Malayalam from February. As for the reality show in Kannada, she says, “They have not come with any plan and in case they do, I will be more than happy to be part of the show,” she says.
