Finally, even Karnataka moviegoers will get to see why Kattappa killed Baahubali. The filmmakers say that the movie, which has seen its share of controversy, will soon be released in the state.
Distributor NR Sudhir, who is bringing the film to Karnataka on behalf of the producers, sounds relieved. He says, “Looks like the recent controversy has blown over.” Actor Sathyaraj has apologised for the video that was taken in 2009 but shared widely recently. In the video, the veteran is seen making disparaging remarks about Kannadigas, in connection with the Cauvery row.
But Sudhir is still not sure how many theatres will screen it. “We will get to know that after discussions with the Kannada Rakshana Vedike, Vattal Nagaraj and KFCC president Sa Ra Govindu... they will take a call. Hopefully, the matter will be resolved in a day or two,” he says. The Vedike, Nagaraj and Govindu had taken exception to Satyaraj’s comments and had objected to the movie’s release.
Director SS Rajamouli appealed to the Kannada audience to not punish the filmmakers and disregard their effort because of an actor’s comment. On Friday, Sathyaraj’s apologised to all the Kannadigas.
Sudhir says that he is only working on commission for the producer, for this movie. “Unlike other films which are bought by the distributor to be released in the state, Bahubali has not been bought by me... I have not paid the team anything, I am only helping them reach the film widely. They are simply rewarding me for my services,” he says.
