It’s  is party time for the fans of Mammootty and Suresh Gopi as the much-hyped flick of 2012 ‘The King and  the Commissioner’ hits 120 screens all over the state on Friday. Adding to the excitement is the factor that two of the electrifying characters ever created in Malayalam cinema - Joseph Alex, the man of impeccable records and Bharathchadran, the icon of manliness are coming face to face on screen for the first time.

Joseph Alex,  the District Collector portrayed by Mammootty in ‘The King’ released in 1995 still stands out among the firebrand characters presented in Malayalam while Bharathchandran, the sagacious police officer donned by Suresh Gopi in ‘Commissioner’ (1994) is known for his audacity and vibrant nature. The popularity of the latter also prompted scriptwriter  Renji Panicker to opt the same character for his directorial venture ‘Bharathchandran IPS’ (2005) which was also a smash hit. Tinseltown is also keenly looking forward to the movie as it is  a comeback vehicle for the director and actors. Mammootty who did not have a big hit in his kitty in 2011 is expected to have a mighty return through this movie. Likewise, Suresh Gopi, who did not have any major releases after ‘Christian Brothers’ is also keeping his fingers crossed. Most of all, it is a ‘must win’ situation for director Shaji Kailas, who is waiting for a big hit after ‘Chinthamani Kolacase’ (2006).

Fans are expecting nothing but a blockbuster, with both the characters appearing together. To make the occasion more memorable, they are planning various festivities on the release day. “We were eagerly waiting for this movie for the last one year. It was confirmed on January 1 and the shooting started in June 2011.  Now, with the release date confirmed for March 23 we have started grand promotional programmes for the movie including a rally on the release day,” said Mammootty Fans and Welfare Association Ernakulam secretary U S Sarju.
