Of love and other cliches

Stories that celebrate friendship are always in vogue onscreen. Yet another flick of this genre, ‘Oru Soapetty Katha’, will hit the screens on November 8. The film, with its unusual title and catchy tagline, ‘Everything Cliche’, is a celebration of the camaraderie shared by two friends. Directed by Hafiz Ismail, the movie zooms into the ups and downs of the relationship of two close buddies, Tony and Ajmal. Hakeem Shajahan and Shafeeq Rahiman enacts the lead roles respectively.

Talking about the film which the makers claims to be an ‘alternate youth movie’, Arun Govindankutty, who has penned the script says, “The uniqueness of the film begins with its tagline. Life is a cliched affair for many of the youngsters today. Though they chill out and enjoy work, love and money to the core, nothing unusual happens in the life of many, which is why we have used the term, cliche. Tony and Ajmal are two youngsters who lead such an existence until an incident overturns everything.”

The title, ‘ Oru Soapetty Katha’ which means the ‘A Soap Box Story’ is a term commonly used among the movie buffs, says Arun. He says, “Among our friends, we use that term for films that have a simple, unassuming narration

Elaborating more on the scriptwriter says, “Though Tony and Ajmal are intimate friends from their childhood, they have different tastes and opinions. While Tony, an orphan, is content with his girlfriend, Ajmal is more of a playboy with an eventful love life. They work as marketing executives of an insurance company in Kozhikode. The incident that occurs affects their relationship and how the two youngsters tackle the issue forms the crux of the film.”

This is the second outing of director Hafiz Ismail who entered tinseltown with ‘Koratty Pattanam Railway Gate’. Shafeeq Rahiman has already made his presence felt through films like ‘Cinema Company’, ‘Korattypattanam Railway Gate’ and ‘Black Ticket’.

Along with seasoned actors like Mamukoya and KPAC Lalitha, a bunch of youngsters like Miraj Bhaskar, Anand Bodh, Laljish Lovlies, Abdul Rahim, Sibi and Vanditha Manohar will make their appearance in different s e c - t i o n s of the film.

The film’s music has Abhijith Johnson. The songs are sung by Amal Vargeese, C M Sadhik, Aarita Divine and Aslam. The trailer of the film and the songs are already creating ripples on YouTube. The film is produced by Unnikrishnan P S and Hafiz Ismail under the banner of Akamksha Movie Creations and Film Godown Movie Makers.
