On the go

Young actor Shraavan is back in the industry with a couple of interesting projects

Those who have seen ‘Malarvaadi Arts Club’ are unlikely to forget the performance rendered by Shraavan in his first outing. After a gap, the actor is all set to make a comeback in the industry with a promising role in the film ‘Namboodiri Yuvav@43’. The youngster, who is all upbeat about the film says, “I am playing a key role in the film. I’m awaiting its release and I’m sure it will draw a good response.”

The film, starring Manian Pillai Raju in the lead, is slated for release next month. “I’m playing an entirely different character in this film compared to the one I did in ‘Malarvaadi Arts Club’. Though it is a small role, it is noticeable,” Shraavan says. ‘Namboodiri Yuvav@43’, directed by Mahesh Sharma, is based on the story of a youth who is a tantri at a temple. Shraavan is doing a character named Tarun Bhaskar, who is a medical representative. “The role has a negative tint, like the one I did in the film ‘Doctor Love’,” he throws some light on his character, without divulging much.

Shraavan, for whom the film industry is his first love, reveals that it was his childhood dream to become an actor. With this dream in mind, he used to imitate superstars like Mohanlal and Mammootty during his school days.

He says getting selected for ‘Malarvadi Arts Club’ was not easy. “After completing Plus II, I sent portfolios to many directors and unsuccessfully tried many auditions. It took me more than two years of pursuit to get calls from low-budget films but I decided to wait for a good banner...and it wasn’t in vain. After several auditions, I was selected for Vineeth Sreenivasan’s movie. It was the happiest day in my life,” he says with a smile.

Ask him about the gap in his acting career and he says it was intentional. “After ‘Malarvadi Arts Club’, I got many offers which were typecast. I, however, wanted to act in a different role, which will stay in people’s heart,” Shraavan quips. He, however, has an unfulfilled dream. “After the shoot of Malarvadi, I wanted to study in Pune Film Institute. I didn’t know a degree was a must to study there. So, I went to Bangalore to pursue degree course and after that I did MBA,” says Shraavan.

The energetic young actor gives a lot of importance to friendship. And he has named his textile shop at Tripunithura ‘Amigos’ (Spanish word for Friends). He says it was Mammootty who inspired him to start a business venture. “One day I met Mammootty at a shooting location. It was a dream-come-true day. When I met him, he not only recognised me, but also advised to do some side business. Now, I’m really thankful to him as my textile shop is going well and has completed its second anniversary recently,” he says.

Shraavan, a native of Kochi, seems to be having busy days ahead, with a number of upcoming projects in the Mollywood. “I firmly believe that effort taken won’t go wasted. I wish to work with good director,” he concludes.
