The Fun Trio

Amar, Akbar and Antony are your quintessential new-gen mix. They understand only the grammar of brands and fashion, their worlds are narrow and society commitment is an alien term. But, what if their worlds are turned  upside down?

Comedian-turned-director Nadir Shah offers a fun ride to their world in his directorial debut, Amar Akbar Antony, that will hit the marquee this Friday. He says his heroes, played by Prithviraj, Indrajith and Jayasoorya, are poster boys of today’s youth.

“They don’t care what happens to anybody else, but them, and money is their sole motive. Society  tags them irresponsible, but, soon, they face certain circumstances that prompts them to have a rethink,” says Nadir Shah, of his venture which he calls a family youth entertainer.  Nadir Shah says that his previous works (audio cassettes like ‘De Maveli Kombath’), had always been a tasteful mix of humour, with a social cause, and Amar Akbar Anthony is no different.

“It is a satire and I have always believed in humour with a reason. That was one reason why my cassettes were popular. It appealed to every class and I think I am trying to do the same with my movie,” he says.

And Nadir Shah thinks he has effectively given the message through Amar Akbar Antony. “In fact, the cast is wonderful. All of them have done the humour well. Although Prithviraj has already proven his mettle as an actor, he is relatively unexplored in comedy,” says Nadir Shah.

He says its no coincidence that his debut is a comedy entertainer and had always wanted to make a fun movie. “People view me through a certain lens. They see me as an entertainer and I want to give them what they expect from me. All these years, the support people gave me is because I could give them something to enjoy. I really want to continue doing it,” says Nadir Shah.

He has also handled the music of Amar Akbar Antony. “I have written one song, but the highlight will be a song penned by Bappu Vavad. This song has already garnered good reviews. He is a man of immense talent, but not many know about him. I hope the movie will give him a wider reach,” says Nadir Shah.
