'Hendthira Darbar' (Kannada, Family entertainer, 2010)
Cast: Ramesh Arvind, Meena and others
Director: Sekhar
It is a remake of the Tamil film 'Varavu Ettana Selavu Pathana'.
Director Sekhar, who is known for directing family entertainers, has done a great job. With 'Hendithir Dharbar', he has not only ensured that the film is hilarious but has also included the much-needed message to middle-class families, especially housewives.
Ramesh and Meena have done equally well in their respective roles, while Ramesh’s performance, especially in the scene where he tries to wake up his son who has lost one of his shoes, is superb. Ramesh needs to be applauded as the scene shows him in a negative light. Rangayana Raghu has played the role of a personal assistant to an MLA well. His dialogue delivery and gestures are superb.
Sadhu Kokila’s performance is as usual while Ambika Soni, who makes her debut in Sandalwood, impresses.
The movie is all about Sivaram (Ramesh), who works as a clerk at the Slum Clearance Board. He wants to lead a simple life but his wife Radha (Meena), impressed by the lifestyle of her neighbour, wants to lead a life of luxury. Their children also crave to imitate their neighbours.
Sivaram tries to convince his wife that they cannot lead a life of luxury as he depends on his salary but circumstances compel him to look for other means of income. Finally, both realise that they have to spend according to their income.
The movie is worth watching by all, especially housewives who crave for a life of luxury.
