No comedy, no romance!

With a stale plot and screenplay, Nazriya is the only selling tip for Naiyyandi.

Film- Naiyyandi,

Director- Sargunam,

Cast- Dhanush, Nazriya Nazim, Suri, Satyan, Shreeman, Vamsi Krishna

It’s the first time Sargunam and Dhanush have teamed up, though both have proved their credentials with earlier films. So, when the duo joins together for a comic entertainer, as satiric as the title suggests, one expects a fun-filled experience.

But the film is a disappointment with its lacklustre screenplay and old-style treatment. In the credits, the director mentions that the inspiration for this movie was the Malayalam film Meleparambil Aanveedu. However, he has made slight changes to the earlier version by toning down some of the cross sequences.

The movie Naiyyandi is about a couple who falls in love, elope, get married and hide it from their families all along. Though the girl would have earlier promised her father to marry the man of his choice, she breaks it by falling in love with the hero. The hero has two unmarried elder brothers at home and decides to hide his marriage from his family until circumstances are favourable. Dhanush falls for Nazriya in a typical love-at-first-sight scenario. The girl reciprocates after the initial bickering. The narration follows a predictable path, with nothing new or exciting. Nazriya is introduced into Dhanush’s household as his buddy Suri’s acquaintance.

There’s no great scope for performance for Dhanush. Nazriya, cute and bubbly, oozes freshness. She is probably the only watchable element in the film.

The second half is about the hero’s brothers vying for Nazriya’s attention. Shreeman and Satyan make an effort to live up to the situation.

There is also a villain, the intended groom of Nazriya. He appears at expected moments with his armed goons and his gang gets bashed up each time by the hero.

With neither the comedy nor the romance working out, the film’s stale plot and staler treatment make it a big yawnable experience.
