Sharing the spotlight

Actress Ileana D’cruz had no qualms about sharing screen space with Nargis Fakhri in Main Tera Hero
Sharing the spotlight

Ileana D’Cruz, who made a name for herself in the Telugu film industry with her roles in Pokiri, Munna, Aata, among others, says that she is comfortable sharing the screen with others and doesn’t really wish to hog the limelight herself. From being paired with top actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor and now Varun Dhawan in her new movie Main Tera Hero, Ileana is getting comfortable with Bollywood. Though absent for a while in the South now, she has garnered a lot of attention here for her solo acts, which is not the case with her Hindi films.

In her latest project, Main Tera Hero, she is seen sharing screen space with another female actor, but the actress seems to be comfortable with it. “Maybe films in the South are scripted differently, but I am comfortable with it. People asked me why I chose to play the role in Barfi! alongside Priyanka Chopra, who is such a brilliant actor. But I loved my role and it paid off. I don’t regret that. Even in Main Tera Hero, I share screen space with Nargis Fakhri. We both have different characters in the film. There is a lot more fun when you have more actors,” said Ileana.

The 26-year-old, who has never hesitated to take up projects in any language, feels that films are meant for entertainment irrespective of the language. “I feel that the audience should not miss me because films are films, irrespective of whether they are in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam or Hindi. What is good about our films is that they get released all over India and the world. I hope to entertain people, in every language. Of late, I am being choosy and I wouldn’t do a Southern film unless the script is really good,” she said.

Playing Sunaina in her latest movie was a refreshing experience for her. “The character of Sunaina is very unlike me, though there are certain traits of her that suit me. There is a certain mystery about her behaviour in the first half of the movie. But, she opens up later and that is when the transformation happens. There is a comic angle to her character as well, so it was fun playing her,” she explained.

Ileana is also glad to be rubbing shoulders with her B-Town buddies and it is known that she enjoys Kareena Kapoor’s company a lot. “We are friends and I get along very well with her. We bond over food a lot,” she added.
