‘I Will be Playing a Comedian’

Nandita Shetty talks about her role in the comedy flick Aindham Thalaimurai Sidha Vaidhiya Sigamani, which will also see her shaking a leg for the first time
‘I Will be Playing a Comedian’

Nandita has been careful with her choice of movies so far. And she says she’ll continue to be so. “I sign a movie based on the script and I don’t give a thought  as to who my co-star, director or producer is,” says Nandita, who was seen at the launch of the 11th branch of Essensuals Salon recently.

While movie schedules and back-to-back shoots keep her busy most days, whenever she gets free time, Nandita says she would use it to get some sleep. “I hardly find time to sleep. So when I’m not acting, I tend to sleep,” she says with a laugh.

Nanditha is currently shooting for four films, all of them Tamil – Anjala, Idam Porul Ival, Aindham Thalaimurai Sidha Vaidhiya Sigamani and Aambala. “I enjoy acting, and I’m proud to be part of the films I’m rendering my work to,” she says.

Speaking about Aindham Thalaimurai.., directed by newbie L G Ravichandran , Nandita says that it would be the first ever Tamil film in which she’ll be seen dancing. The flick which stars Bharath as her co-star is of a comedy genre. “Bharath is a good dancer and I’m a dance enthusiast. The movie is a comedy one, and I would also don the hat of a comedian,” she reveals.

Her journey in Kollywood began with Attakathi, for which she received positive reviews from the film fraternity and audience for her performance. However, she shot to fame after her bold performance in Ethir Neechal. “At first, I  was in a dilemma on whether or not to play the character of Valli in the flick as it was an unconventional one. But then, I decided to go ahead. It required a lot of effort,” she says, talking about her role in Ethir Neechal.

Nanditha confesses that it was hard for her initially, when she was on the lookout for good scripts. But Tamil industry had been very kind to her, she adds. “There are lot of differences in the way Kollywood and Sandalwood movies are shot. In Kollywood, scripts play a vital role,” she says. “I’m also going to break the ‘homely’ tag that’s attached to me, soon,” she adds.

Nandita’s real name is Shweta, but she likes being called Nandita. “I don’t wish to go to the past. Nandita’s the name that brought me fame. Now, when I see even my relatives calling me Nandita, I feel proud as I got the name from my first ever movie in Kannada titled Nanda loves Nanditha which was a blockbuster hit,” she says.
