After trying his hand at a variety of roles, Jayam Ravi is now excited about his latest project Sakalakala Vallavan. A full-length comedy, the film directed by Suraaj also stars Trisha, Anjali, Soori and Vivekh in pivotal roles.

The film is a comical take on the rivalry between two characters played by the actor and comedian Soori, who have frequent run ins. Excited about his first full-blown comedy role, the actor credits the director for creating a role which is complete and fun to play. “I just had to follow the  director’s instructions. He had planned every element of the role. It is a complete script and I was at ease while playing the role,” he says.

Sharing screen space with an acclaimed comedy actor like Soori, Ravi says that it was an amazing experience. “Soori is the expert at the genre and I was very happy to be pitted opposite him in his terrain. It was fun doing the project,” he adds.

And by the end of shooting the film, Ravi has grown fonder of the genre. “I now want to do more such full-length comedy films. Making someone laugh is not easy as it seems to be. It is a big challenge and with this film, I have become more interested in the genre,” he adds.

The film, which was originally titled Appatakkar, was renamed recently. However, the actor says that while the director has borrowed the title from the popular Kamal Haasan-starrer, it has no other similarities with the 1982 film. “That was a separate genre altogether. I know that a similar title means that the film has a lot of baggage to carry, but there is no other resemblance between the two except the title,” he says.

Produced by Lakshmi Movie Makers, the film has music by Thaman. Ravi is also set for his sixth outing with his filmmaker brother M Raja. Thani Oruvan, produced by AGS entertainment, also stars Nayanthara, and is touted as a romantic action flick.
