Pooja Plays a Don in Her Next

A person who believes in rehearsing her part, Pooja says like in all her films, she made an effort to rehearse her role before actually shooting for it.

Actor Pooja Kumar, who, after working with none other than Kamal Haasan in three of his films back-to-back, is now working on a feel-good, romantic comedy titled Meenkuzhambbum Manpaanayum.

“While picking a project, I always look at the story, my character in it and the director of the film. I always look for interesting characters to play. In Vishwaroopam, I played a scientist and in Uttama Villain, I played an actress. All the characters in Kamal sir’s films are different and very challenging. This role too was different and very challenging and therefore, I chose this project,” says Pooja.

Sources in the industry say the actress plays a don in the film, which is being directed by Amudeshver . Ask Pooja if that is true and she says, “Yes, I do play a female don in the film. I am paired opposite Prabhu sir and Kalidas plays his son in it.”

Pooja has never hesitated to do stunts. She did it in Vishawaroopam and in Uttama Villain too. Has she had to perform stunts in Meenkuzhambbum Manpannayum as well? She replies, “Actually yes. I did the back flips in Uttama Villain and stunts in Vishwaroopam. In this film too, I have had to perform stunts.”

The actress, whose mother tongue is Hindi, is now also busy attending Tamil classes to learn the language. “I have a Tamil tutor called Babu sir. I am making an effort to learn the language,” says Pooja, admitting that she might even giving dubbing for her character a shot.

A person who believes in rehearsing her part, Pooja says like in all her films, she made an effort to rehearse her role before actually shooting for it.

“Actors like Leonardo Di Caprio and Cate Blanchet rehearse a lot. They research about their roles and practise so hard that that when they perform, it looks so real.  I am someone who believes in rehearsing and I did that in this film too.I sat with the director and assistant directors beforehand to work on my character and that has helped me enhance my performance,” says Pooja, who says that the unit has finished one schedule and that she has another one to go in Malaysia.

The actor, who says that she is in talks for two other projects, refuses to disclose any more details with a smile. “Wait for two weeks and I’ll let you know,” she signs off.
