Manjima Mohan, who is playing the female lead in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Achcham Enbadu Madamaiyada, one of the most anticipated films of the year, has every reason to believe that this year will be exciting.

The trailer of the film, which was released in the first moments of the new year, has been garnering a lot of attention on social media platforms. In fact, the trailer has raised expectations of the film, among fans od the filmmaker.

Says Manjima, “I was at home with my family to celebrate the New Year when we watched the trailer. My mom and dad were moved to tears when they saw the trailer on screen. They were totally impressed with the way Gautham sir has shown me in the film which has AR Rahman’s music. My sister-in-law and brother, who work in Thiruvananthapuram, called and shared their happiness after watching the trailer as well.”

Although the actor hails from Palakkad and her family stays in Trivandrum, she studied in Stella Maris College in the city. After working in Malayalam films as a child artiste, Manjima made a comeback to films with the immensely popular Malayalam film, Oru Vadakkan Selfie.

“Vineeth Srinivasan sir and Gautham Menon sir are good friends. So, when Vineeth sir sent Gautham the trailer of Oru Vadakkan Selfie, Gautham sir saw me. He got in touch with me and I auditioned for the role and I was selected,” says Manjima and adds that it was her dream to work with the ace director.

“I respect and admire Gautham sir. While studying here in Chennai, I have often seen him chatting with friends at a cafe I visit. I would always wonder when I would get to meet him. But when he called, I was speechless. I was scared to talk to him initially. But later, thanks to his down-to-earth attitude, it was easy,” she says.

Achcham Enbadhu Madamaiyada, in which Simbu plays the lead, is about courage and inner strength. What role does she play? “In the film, I play the role of someone, who visits her friend on vacation and meets this guy. It’s a different from the role I played in Oru Vadakkan Selfie. In  that, I had to underplay my character,” she explains.

What has she learnt from the ace director? “There are lots of things that I have learnt but the most important of them all is patience. I am an impatient person. But I’ve never seen Gautham sir shout or get irritated even when things don’t work out the way they should. He is always calm and relaxed, no matter what the situation is,” she gushes.

Sources say Manjima has been signed on as the female lead in director SR Prabhakaran’s next film featuring Vikram Prabhu in the lead. Get her to comment on this information and she confirms, “It is true. I have signed up for the film. I loved the story so much that I chose to be a part of it after listening to just the first half of the film. However, that is all that I will be able to say about this project at the moment,” she smiles.
