A Horror-Comedy is Iniya's Next

A toned-down Iniya gets chatty with City Express about her role in Pottu, a multi-starrer that also features Bharath, Manisha Yadav and Namitha, and also about her training in Mixed Martial Arts
A Horror-Comedy is Iniya's Next

Iniya, who impressed both audiences and critics with her performance in Sargunam’s Vagai Sooda Vaa (2011), will soon be seen playing the title role in Pottu, a horror-comedy which is being directed by Vadivudaiyaan. Work on the film began on Wednesday with a pooja at a well-known lab in the heart of the city.

“I play the title character in this film. I play a girl from a tribal family who moves to the city for higher education. My character is a student of medicine. The developments there turn unsavoury and she seeks revenge,” says Iniya while commenting on the film, which features Bharath in the lead.

“This is the first time I am pairing up with Bharath for a film. Director Vadivudaiyaan called me up one day and said he had an action-oriented character for which I would fit. I was looking for a challenging role and therefore accepted it,” Iniya informs.

Most actors would be a bit hesitant to be a part of multi-starrers. Iniya, however, doesn’t have any such qualms.   This film too features two other actors — Manisha Yadav and Namitha — apart from her. “I am confident about my skills and talent. There are ego clashes only when people doubt their own abilities. That’s why I have no problems with multi-starrers,” says the actor.

It’s obvious that Iniya has lost a lot of weight. Was it a conscious decision taken for this particular role? Pat comes the reply: “No, not just for this role. Even otherwise, I wanted to reduce weight. I am doing a number of ads these days and I also have to perform dance sequences. So, I needed to lose weight.”

Will the audience get to watch her perform any stunts in this film too like she did in her last film Karaioram (2015)? “No,” she says and laughs. “However, I am attending Mixed Martial Arts classes to keep fit. I am learning Karate, Jujitsu, kickboxing and a number of other martial arts as well. I practise for an hour everyday.”

Let the Racket do the Talking

Acting is not the only thing that’s keeping Iniya busy. She is expected to be participating in the Celebrity Badminton League that will be held in Dubai shortly. She has been preparing for the tournament by practicing badminton for the past one month
