CHENNAI: It has been more than a year since Vadivelu was seen on the big screen. After doing films like Tenaliraman (2014) and Eli (2015), which enjoyed lukewarm responses at the box-office, he’s now sharing screen space with Vishal in Kaththi Sandai, directed by Suraaj. Both of them were seen together in Thimiru (2007). Remember, a few years ago Vadivelu had announced that he would only sign films that will offer him the lead role henceforth? It looks like he has compromised on his principle.

Speaking at the Kaththi Sandai press meet, the comedian said that he didn’t feel like he was away for long. “I didn’t do films because nothing interested me. Fortunately, Suraaj approached me with this script. I found it impressive. I have modified my body language, and have brought out something new in this.” Suraaj and Vadivelu had already worked together in Marudhamalai (2007) and Thalai Nagaram (2006).
Vadivelu added that he was looking forward to continuing his stint in K’town. “Though I didn’t do many films I was thinking about cinema all along. I had several offers but I was just waiting for the right one to come up. Kaththi Sandai was simply the best project that I could have done,” he said.
In the film, Vadivelu plays a psychiatrist and sports a different look. “People kept telling me that they miss seeing me on screen. I know I made them laugh, and laughter is the best medicine. That’s the reason I am back,” he said, adding that he has been bestowed with the gift to entertain the audience.  “I’ll continue doing that. In Kaththi Sandai, there are hilarious comedy tracks.”

Vishal observed that he wouldn’t have done the film if Vadivelu wasn’t a part of it. “Wherever I go, my friends from IPS or government officials ask me eagerly about the film because of Vadivelu. Our combination has always worked in our favour. During the Nadigar Sangam elections, he was quite co-operative and the result was fruitful. The same way, this film will also be a success.” he shared.
Filmmaker Suraaj said, “So far, Vishal has only been a part of action-entertainers, and this is his first attempt in balancing comedy, romance, sentiments et al. Tamannaah has an equal scope to perform. With Soori sporting many looks, there’s going to be loads of laughter.” Shooting was done extensively in and around Chennai, Hyderabad and Georgia, the film will be released soon.
While Vaigaipuyal will entertain the audience in the first half, Soori, will take over after the intermission.
