Early Life - Other News

Kapoor attended Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai and Welham Girls School in Dehradun. Although she later admitted to enjoying the experience, her main motivation to attend the institution was to satisfy her mother. Kapoor claims that she was not inclined towards academics, although she received good grades in all her classes except mathematics. Following graduation from Welham, she studied commerce at Mithibai College in Mumbai for two years. The following year, Kapoor enrolled in microcomputer courses at Harvard Summer School in the United States

She then began to develop a passion for law and enrolled at Government Law College in Mumbai, where she developed a passion for reading. However, after completing her first year, she decided to pursue acting instead of finishing her education. She regrets not completing her education later, though. During her training at an acting institute in Mumbai, she was mentored by Kishore Namit Kapoor, a member of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTI).

She describes herself as a "very naughty spoilt child," and her exposure to films at an early age kindled her interest in acting; she was particularly influenced by the actresses Nargis and Meena Kumari. Despite her family background, her father disapproved of women acting in films, believing it interfered with women's traditional roles and responsibilities in the home. Due to this, her parents separated, and Karisma was raised by her mother, who worked several jobs to support her daughters until she debuted as an actress in 1991. Despite living separately for several years, her parents reconciled in October 2007. Kapoor stated, "My father is an essential part of my life. Although we did not see each other often in those early years, we are now a family".

Career

During her training at the institute, Kapoor was cast as the lead in Rakesh Roshan's Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000) opposite his son, Hrithik Roshan. Kapoor left the project shortly after filming began; she later explained that she had benefited by not doing it since the director's son was given more prominence. She later appeared with Abhishek Bachchan in J.P. Dutta's war drama Refugee. Kapoor played a character named Naaz, a Bangladeshi girl with whom Bachchan's character falls in love during the Indo-Pakistani war in 1971. Her casting resulted from the combination of her youthfulness and innocence, and Kapoor considered their collaboration a valuable learning experience. Bollywood Hungama's Taran Adarsh described Kapoor as "a natural performer," who emoted even the most difficult scenes well, and India Today praised her as one of the few Hindi actors who have broken free from character stereotypes. Refugee was a modest box-office success in India, and Kapoor's performance earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

Her second release was Satish Kaushik's box-office hit Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai (2001), in which she played opposite Tusshar Kapoor. According to The Hindu, she is an actress to keep an eye on based on her first two films. Her next film was Subhash Ghai's flop Yaadein, followed by Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, and Bipasha Basu's moderately successful thriller Ajnabee. In the following year, she appeared in Santosh Sivan's period epic Ashoka, a biography of the Indian emperor of the same name partly based on a fictionalised account. With Shah Rukh Khan as her lead, Kapoor found the character of Kaurwaki (a Kalingan princess) challenging. Ashoka received positive reviews at the Venice and 2001 Toronto International Film Festivals, but it did not do well in India, which critics attributed to how the movie portrayed the emperor. According to Jeff Vice of The Desert News, Kapoor has a good screen presence. However, Rediff.com was more critical, concluding that her presence in the film was primarily for aesthetic reasons. There were five nominations for Ashoka at the 47th Filmfare Awards, with Kapoor nominated for Best Actress.

The key moment in Kapoor's career came when Karan Johar cast her as Pooja ("Poo", a sweet, superficial girl) alongside an ensemble cast in the melodrama Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham in 2001. In the end, she found little resemblance between herself and her "over-the-top" character and recreated Poo's personality from Johar's. The experience of working on the big-budget production was new for Kapoor, who recalls it fondly: "We had a blast working with our unit, and the six mega star cast was a dream come true.  Having become India's second highest-grossing film of the year and Kapoor's highest-grossing film to that point, "Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham" was a popular release in the movie theatres. The film was one of the biggest Bollywood successes of all time in the overseas market, earning over $1 billion (US$13 million) worldwide. Taran Adarsh described Kapoor as a "main highlight of the film," and she won her second Filmfare nomination for the role. She also won nominations at the Indian Academy and Screen Awards.

During an interaction with his Bunty Aur Babli 2 co-star Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan revealed a strange interaction he had with a fan. Earlier this year, Saif and his family moved to a bigger house.

After someone rang their doorbell, Saif recalled a woman walking in when they opened the door. They opened the door, and this woman barged in and looked at me and said, 'So, this is where you live, then,'" he said.

Rani was intrigued by the story, so he inquired how the woman was permitted to enter the building. He replied, "I wonder how she was allowed to enter Saif's building.

Saif replied, "I don't know; she just walked up with a lot of confidence. She looked well-dressed, so nobody stopped her. She rang the doorbell and walked in. My wife and I are both looking at her in wonderment."

The Best Movie Role Played By Kareena Kapoor Khan

The film Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (K3G) was a blockbuster hit in the cinemas! The stellar star cast, the extravagant sets, the music - everything was just perfect! Kareena Kapoor played Poo in Karan Johar's ambitious project, which became an overnight sensation. After K3G, Bebo became a fashion icon and a trendsetter. In addition to her pairing with Hrithik Roshan, the two were rumoured to be dating at that time. Despite being in a low-key role, Kareena stood up to SRK and Kajol in the film. Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham was a rage overseas as well. Kareena was nominated for a Filmfare Award under the category of Best Supporting Actress, but she lost out to Jaya Bachchan, who portrayed her mother-in-law in the film. This film marked a turning point in Bebo's life and is considered one of her greatest hits!

Career beginnings, Breakthrough, Setback, and Professional Expansion - Other News

While training at the institute, Kareen Kapoor Khan was cast in Rakesh Roshan's Kaho Naa. Pyaar Hai (2000) opposite his son, Hritik Roshan.  After several days of filming, the actress abandoned the project and later explained that the director's son had been given more credit for her decision not to do the film. In the same year, she co-starred with Abhishek Bachchan in JP Dutta’s war drama Refugee. Kareena Kapoor plays Naaz, a Bangladeshi girl who falls in love with Bachchan's character during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Dutta cast her because of her youthfulness and innocence, and Kapoor saw their collaboration as a learning opportunity that benefited her personally and professionally. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for her performance in the film, which was a moderate box-office success in India.

Kapoor's second release was Satish Kaushik's blockbuster Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai (2001), which starred Tusshar Kapoor. In a review in The Hindu, she was described as "definitely the actress to watch".  Following her performance in Subhash Ghai's flop Yaadein, she appeared in Abbas-Mustan's moderately successful thriller Ajnabee with Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, and Bipasha Basu. The next year, she appeared in Santosh Sivan's epic period drama Ashoka, which is based on the life of the Indian emperor of the same name. Kapoor, who played Kaurwaki, the woman Ashoka falls in love with, was challenged by the complex personality of her character opposite Shah Rukh Khan. The film was screened at both the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals, receiving generally positive reviews internationally but not well in India because of its portrayal of Ashoka. Described as "riveting" by Jeff Vice of The Desert News, Kapoor has a strong screen presence. According to Rediff.com, her presence in the film was primarily for aesthetic reasons. Ashoka was nominated for five awards at the 47th Filmfare Awards, including a nomination for Best Actress for Kapoor.

Kapoor gained popularity with Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, becoming the highest-paid Indian actress to that point with Rs. 15 million (US$200,000) per film with Ashoka. Kapoor worked on several projects in 2002 and 2003 but experienced a setback. All six films in which she starred- Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Jeena Sirf Mere Liye, Talaash: The Hunt Begins, Khushi, Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, and the four-hour war epic LOC Kargil were critically unsuccessful. Some critics described her roles in these films as variations of the same character she played in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and expressed concern that she was becoming typecast. She later recalled this as a beneficial lesson that taught her "to work harder and change things" and confessed that she accepted these roles for financial gain rather than artistic merit.

Marriage

In October 2012, Kapoor married Saif Ali Khan. Their sons were born in 2016 and 2022, respectively. Despite adding Khan to her name, Kapoor said she would continue practising Hinduism after marriage.

Other Ventures

Fashion and publication

Kapoor has also established a career as a designer in addition to her acting career. Kapoor was the first Indian actress to launch clothing for women following her five-year partnership with Globus; the collaboration was "special" and "reflected my personal style". After several months, her collection was launched across India and was well received. While with Globus, Kapoor expressed a desire to work with a design house to have her clothing line released internationally. However, she later explained that those plans were on hold. In August 2018, Kapoor collaborated with Lakme Cosmetics to launch her cosmetic line.

Philanthropy

Throughout her career, Kapoor has actively promoted children's education and the safety of women. NDTV launched the Shakti Campaign in 2010 to combat violence against women, and the actress was appointed ambassador to the project. The following year, Kapoor launched Channel V's anti-rape app VithU, explaining that with violence against women on the rise in the country, it was important for actors to get involved because they can reach a large audience."

Beginning in January 2014, Kapoor began working with UNICEF to advocate for better education for girls in India. In speaking of her association, she said that she hopes to "create places where children feel safe and secure, and where interactive and creative tools are used to ensure that children learn and are happy."

In the Jalna district of Rajasthan and Maharashtra, Kapoor visited schools to interact with students and participate in fundraising events hosted by the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya organisation. As the UNICEF India Goodwill Ambassador (Sharmila Tagore), Kapoor hosted a charity dinner to promote the development of underprivileged children and launched the 'Child-Friendly School and Systems' package. Later, she donated an equivalent amount of the funds raised for a higher-quality learning environment in Indian schools through a joint initiative with UNICEF and Groupon.

Stage Performances, Radio, And Television Presenting

Since 2002, Kapoor has participated in several stage shows and world tours. She toured in the United States and Canada with Hrithik Roshan, Karisma Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, and Aftab Shivdasani for Heartthrobs: Live in Concert in 2002. At the end of that year, she performed in the show Now or Never with other Bollywood stars in Durban, South Africa.

With six other Bollywood celebrities, Kapoor returned to the stage four years after her last appearance. Due to Salman Khan's arrest, the concert was originally scheduled to begin in April 2006. It was staged in 19 cities across the United Kingdom, United States, and Canada the following month. A series of concerts organised by Shah Rukh Khan in some countries included Kapoor's appearance at Temptation Reloaded 2008. The show premiered at Rotterdam Ahoy in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and starred Arjun Rampal, Katrina Kaif, Ganesh Hegde, Javed Ali, and Anusha Dandekar.

Several months later, she performed with Khan, Rampal, and Kaif at Dubai's Festival City Arena before an audience of 15,000 people. Kapoor hosted a radio show called "What Women Want" for Ishq FM in 2018. In addition to earning Kapoor a nomination for "Best Talk Show Host" at the New York Festivals Radio Awards, the show was later renewed for two more seasons. She participated as a talent judge for the seventh season of the dance reality show- Dance India Dance the following year.
