HERMIONE GRANGER: One among the most popular characters of the Harry Potter series, Hermione is considered the smartest witch of her age. Portrayed as a strong, studious character, her geekiness has been instrumental in saving Harry and Ron multiple times. (Remember how certain she was that Fluffy the Cerberus was 'guarding something') Hermione knew many things that a first year student at Hogwarts is unlikely to understand, and belonged to that minority who always are the first to raise their hand when a question is in the air - all thanks to her love for the books. TYRION LANNISTER: He drinks and he knows things. But wine alone makes nobody smart. Perhaps due to his physical disability, Tywin Lannister's youngest had no choice but to prioritise on something other than steel and shield. 'My mind is my weapon. My brother has his sword, King Robert has his war-hammer, and I have my mind... and a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge. That’s why I read so much,' 'the imp' once famously told Jon Snow. (Photo |AP)

SAMWELL TARLY: Joining Tyrion in the league from the Seven Kingdoms is Samwell, who is fond of music and songs, and prefers books over weapons. Although he is insecure and awkward, Jon Snow's best friend is observant and intelligent. Saving Jorah Mormont's life from the greyscale is just one occassion when his hours of wrestling with books finally paid of. True Sam was never meant for the battlefields - but the Archmaester's chain suits none better than the youngest surviving Tarly himself. (Photo |AP)

INDIANA JONES: 'If you want to be a good archeologist, you gotta get out of the library!' There is no denial that the 'senior' Jones said this to one of his students, but we all agree his whip and hat would have discovered nothing if not for his sharp mind and intelligence. There was no way to study early civilisations and history in the early twentieth century but to read. In fact, during his early years, Indy traveled on his father’s lecture tours through Europe, Asia and Africa. During these travels, he learned a great deal about different countries and cultures, and gained a fondness for adventures abroad. (Photo | AP)

ROSS GELLER: Google for the geekiest moments in 'F.R.I.E.N.D.S' and Ross would present be in all of them. After all, how can one be a paleontologist without reading? (He read the Lord of the Rings at High School, remember?) Imitating a velociraptor at class for the sake of his students, adamance on teaching his young son of 'Hanukkah', arguing over the erect Homo Hibilis... how many more situations do we need to put the guy of 'Unagi' on this list! LEONARD HOFSTADTER and SHELDON COOPER: Remember on what did the duo had their first big fight? In 'The Cooper-Hofstadter Polarization' (Season 1, Episode 9) Sheldon threw away an invitation to present their joint findings at a physics conference and said their work’s success is due in large part to him. That explains a lot, doesn't it! 'The Big Bang Theory' produced arguably the world's first bromance plot involving two scientists and made people fall in love with them. Without the mutual love for science and books, no way Sheldon and Leonard would have gelled with each other. (Photo | Facebook)

BELLE: You won't find many Disney heroines who are fond of books and that is precisely one reason why Belle from the 'Beauty and the Beast.' Her reading habit not just made an idiotic Gaston intolerable, but equipped her with the set of skills to help her dad with his invention sagas. Her soft corner for the beast slowly turns into love after given access to the grand library at the castle. (Photos | Facebook)

EVELYN O'CONNELL: Remember the beautiful pyramid explorer from 'The Mummy' series? Nobody becomes a successful writer without making reading a habit, and toward the end of the series we find out Alex's mom has become an established novellist. Always remember it was Eve who read the ancient scriptures and made the plans to ultimately defeat the Mummy time and time again.(Photo | Facebook)

ANDY DUFRESNE: Banker by profession, Andy manages to do the impossible because he is genius. And where does his enormous knowledge of taxes and accounting comes from, obviously we all know the answer. (Warden Samuel Norton reassigned Andy to the prison library to assist elderly inmate Brooks Hatlen). Remember his epic response to a violent Bogs Diamond upon asked where does he receive so much knowledge from? If not, go watch 'The Shawshank Redemption' again. (Photo | Facebook)

BRUCE BANNER: Inside the huge green guy who loves to smash, there is the shy and soft-spoken Dr Banner who loves to read. He had fled the United States, but when a mounting threat called for Banner's specialized scientific expertise, S.H.I.E.L.D. recruited him, knowing full well that the incredible strength of Banner's alter-ego, Hulk, would be an additional asset to the Avengers. Tony Stark might know a lot of stuff as well, but unlike him, the physicist inherited nothing substantial. Whatever he knows, he earned it with handwork and non-stop reading. (Photo | AP)
