Jet Airways temporarily suspending its operation due to financial constraints has created shockwaves in the aviation industry. Well, Jet isn’t the only airline to go defunct. There are plenty of airlines, domestic as well as international, which bore the brunt of rising debts and lack of logistical support ultimately leading to their collapse. Let’s have a look at a few defunct airlines from around the world.

Kingfisher (Defunct 2012): Kingfisher Airlines was founded by the flamboyant Indian business tycoon Vijay Mallya in the year 2005. The airline was a part of Mallya’s multi-billion dollar United Breweries Group. Kingfisher was known for its top-notch on-air service and bright red-coloured fuselage. However, all good things come to an end, as did the King of Good Times. Kingfisher Airlines ceased all operations in October 2012 due to heavy debts. From its Emilio Pucci-designed flight attendant uniforms, to its neatly colour-coordinated fuselage, Braniff knew how to sell itself in the aviation industry.
