Summer Transfer Window 2020 explained: How will signings happen as pandemic-hit season concludes

Surviving the fear of premature conclusion due to the coronavirus pandemic, top European leagues are slowly nearing conclusion despite running behind the usual timeline. The summer transfer window also got delayed in the process but governing bodies seem to have figured out how "business" will happen prior to 2020-21. Can clubs sign players for the remainder of this season?: No. European teams can't get anybody on board for a final push to better their position on the table this season even from countries like the Netherlands which has already completed the season. Players can't be registered for this season and new signings will have to wait for 2020-21 campaign to don their new colours. How long will the window remain open?: With the date for squad registrations for the Champions League and Europa League set for October 6, UEFA has asked all leagues to go with a harmonised deadline - October 5. FIFA mandates the window can't remain open for more than 12 weeks. However, this period can be split into two parts and leagues might save the second period to sync with other leagues.
