HYDERABAD: Downpour in several pockets of the city not only caused severe traffic jams and water inundation but also brought huge disappointment to thousands of cricket lovers as the all important T20 match between India and Australia scheduled to be held at Uppal stadium was washed out. A maximum rainfall of 6.2 cm was recorded in Quthbullapur followed by 5.8cm in Madhapur and 3cm in Balanagar, all within a span of 2-3 hours. Rest of the city received considerable rainfall of 1-2 cm.
Traffic movement was at a snail’s pace in the areas surrounding locations including Hitech city, Kondapur, Kothaguda, Jubilee Hills, Yousufguda, Banjara Hills, Kukatpally, Ameerpet, Sanathnagar and Panjagutta. Many people returning to their homes from offices got delayed by more than an hour. Heavy traffic was witnessed in the Uppal-Ramanthapur-Amberpet and Uppal-Habsiguda- Tarnaka stretch due to traffic jam caused by the combined effect of thousands of people coming out of the stadium and because of waterlogging caused by the rain.
Due to heavy traffic jam in IT corridor areas, there were some instances of cabs meant for dropping IT employees to their homes could not reach on time. As a result, employees were forced to stay back in office for long. The downpour left many of the main roads inundated. Many roads were filled with knee-deep water causing trouble for motorists especially twowheeler drivers.
Thanks to poor urban planning and incomplete civic works at various places. City folks should brace up for similar situation again on Saturday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has iss u e d w a r n i n g t h a t thunderstorm associated with gusty winds is likely to occur at isolated places in TS districts on Saturday.
Two bodies fished out from nalas in city , suspected to be rain-related casualty
Hyderabad: Bodies of two unidentified persons were found floating in nalas in different parts of the city on Friday. They are suspected to have been swept away in the heavy rains that lashed parts of Hyderabad on Thursday. According to police, locals noticed the body of a person in a nala located at the Madannapet bus stop. Police were informed and they visited the place.
As the body was in highly decomposed condition, forensic experts were brought in to examine the postmortem. Similarly, police also found the body of an unidentified person in a nala at Ameerpet last night. Police fished out body and shifted it to mortuary for postmortem. Police suspect that these two persons drowned in drainage due to incessant rains.
