BENGALURU: The High Court on Monday issued notice to the state and Union governments in response to a public interest litigation seeking an independent night daily express train from Bengaluru to Karwar via the newly commissioned Kunigal line.

A division bench of Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice P S Dinesh Kumar also issued notices to the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd, Ministry of Railways, the Indian Railway Board and others on a petition filed by Sanjay Revankar, a resident of Kadwad village in Karwar taluk.

The intention behind the request for an exclusive night train between Bengaluru and Karwar, without entering Mangaluru city, is to reduce the journey period by four hours, according to Revankar.

Revankar’s advocate Raveendra Kolle argued that passengers travelling to destinations like Udupi, Kundapur, Bhatkal, Honavar, Kumta and Ankola would benefit if the night train is started.
