DKS’ father-in-law’s house too searched
MYSURU/ MANGALURU/HASSAN:Income Tax officials on Wednesday raided the residences of Energy Minister D K Shivakumar’s father-in-law and his other relatives in Mysuru. The officials, who arrived in private vehicles at 6.30 am, raided Shivakumar’s relatives’ houses at Dattagalli and TK Layout. They also visited his father-in-law Thimmaiah’s house at Ittigegud and continued the raid till evening. They did not allow local Congress leaders and the minister’s relatives to enter the houses.
The officials questioned Thimmaiah and his family members and even took him to his factory for further probe. They later dropped him at his house. Thimmaiah said the I-T officials did not harass or trouble him. When asked whether they were targeted due to political rivalry, he said, “Let them do whatever they want. We don’t have anything to worry as we have nothing to hide.”
I-T office building damaged
Window panes of the Income Tax office in Mangaluru were shattered by stone pelters on Wednesday during a protest by members of Youth Congress against the I-T raids. Party workers arrived at the I-T department building at Attavar late in afternoon and held a protest in front of the office and raised slogans alleging a ‘witch hunt’ against the minister. They pelted stones on the building and damaged windowpanes and a door.
Police said, “About 100 persons were staging a protest outside the building on the road and tried to burn tyres to which the police objected. They later tried to enter the office which was also foiled. Two of them kicked the glass window panes and broke them. There was no stone pelting.”
Former minister’s kin too raided
Income Tax officials raided the residence, office, a 3-star hotel on BM Road and industrial establishments in Hassan belonging to Sachin Narayan, son-in-law of former minister B Shivaram. They also raided his house in Bengaluru. The officials seized documents related to real estate companies, sources said.
