MALAPPURAM: After the Manjeri NSS College, it is now the turn of the Majlis Arts and Science College to court controversy over a magazine. The college union functionaries on Wednesday came down heavily on the authorities of the institution for allegedly denying permission to distribute the college magazine among students.

Named ‘Waga - Train To Pakistan,’ the magazine is dedicated to the ‘victims of Sangh Parivar brutality’ -  M M Kalburgi, Govind Pansare, Narendra Dhabolkar, Rohit Vemula, Jishnu Pranoy, mob lynching victim Junaid, Riyas Moulavi and Kodinhi Faisal.“We have dedicated it to the victims of Sangh Parivar attacks,” said magazine editor Rafeeq K.

“The principal told us he will not allow us to distribute the magazine while we showed him a copy before releasing. He hasn’t given an explanation on why he denied permission,” he said. The union functionaries also held a press conference in Malappuram on Wednesday. The magazine contains photos of these‘victims’in one of the opening pages.

Its formal release was held last week at the college. The magazine was brought out by the previous students’union led by the SFI. Rafeeq claimed they had the support of the staff editor while working on the contents of the publication.“The staff editor was aware of the contents and he raised no opposition,”he said. Despite repeated attempts, the college authorities were not available for comment.
