Minnie Menon has a flair for making statements. Be it with a clever marketing strategy or the preview of her new jewellery collection, Bangkok With Love. Scheduled for October 5, at The Park, the invite-only event has Karun Raman choreographing a fashion show and Menon’s daughter Anu emceeing it. It will also mark her brand Minnie Menon Jewelry’s third anniversary. Menon begins by telling us how she was inspired by her recent visit to the 58th Bangkok Gem and Jewellery Exhibition, as a guest of the Department of International Trade Promotion of Thailand. “The magnificent scale of the event made me rethink my brand positioning,” says the self taught designer, who has been missing from her customary Page 3 dos lately as she has been working round the clock for the new line.
Promising a mix of global trends and her signature dramatic aesthetics, the collection has luminescent Australian opals and purple Russian charolites – the hue is the cornerstone of her new line says the jewellery aficionado. “I hand-picked the stones from Bangkok and have included lighter pieces this time – especially earrings,” informs Menon. Putting together this exhibition of about 150 pieces, all set in sterling silver, Menon shares that she has centralised the manufacturing to Jaipur, with a team that also works for designers who supply to Selfridges and Harrods. Expect wrist cuffs, neck pieces, cocktail rings and earrings, besides cuff links for men.

From Rs 6,000 onwards, at Mehta Jewellery, C P Ramaswamy Road, October 7 to 9. Details: 24662665
