To find out about Jaguar Land Rover India’s operations, expansion plans and product launches, Ammar Alvi spoke to Rohit Suri, Vice President, Jaguar Land Rover India, who outlined his company’s plans and the road ahead:
Give us a brief heads up on JLR in India and outlook for 2014?
The India operations of Jaguar Land Rover have been tremendously successful, and we are continuing to see a very positive sales momentum. The last quarter saw a 30% growth compared to the same period last year.
Globally, we clocked a record performance in the month of October, retailing 34,101 vehicles, up 35 per cent versus the same period last year. We have a network of 19 distribution outlets across 17 cities in India and recently opened a 50,000 sqft dealership at Coimbatore. We plan to expand the network to 22-23 outlets by the end of the financial year. We have a robust strategy in place for India, and are evaluating the market environment to bring in new products from JLR’s global portfolio. Going forward, we will continue to expand our line-up by bringing in new technologies, design and innovation.
At present, we locally produce Jaguar XF 2.2 and Freelander 2 at our Pune facility and going forward we would see more products from the Jaguar Land Rover India portfolio going under local production.
