German luxury car manufacturer Audi has become No.1 luxury car brand in India. The company, which has been aggressive since its entry in India, achieved sales of 2,616 units in the first quarter of 2013 and 9,350 units in the financial year 2012-13. Ammar Alvi has more on the four rings.

Audi India continued this growth story in April by recording sales of 770 units—a growth of 37 per cent over the same period last year. The company registered a 19.6 per cent growth YTD with sales of 3,386 units from January to April 2013 (2,831 units: Jan-April 2012).

Says Michael Perschke, head, Audi India, “We were aiming for the pole position in 2015. To achieve it almost two years before the target date is a landslide success. As per reports, we are not only No. 1 in the first quarter of 2013 but the whole of FY 2012-13. India is the first market in Asia after China to claim the No.1 spot. However, I think 2013 will be a very competitive year. The best teamwork and the best strategy will make the difference and the customer will be the ultimate winner. This sales result demonstrates our ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’.”

April saw the launch of the super sportscar Audi R8 V10 plus and the second edition of the Audi sportscar experience (ASE) at the Buddh International Circuit, Greater Noida, where enthusiasts experienced Audi’s sportiness, progressiveness and sophistication on the racetrack. Earlier organised only in Delhi-NCR and Chennai, enthusiasts are now getting specialised training on Audi sportscars in multi-cities for the first time.

“Winners and achievers from all walks of life want to connect with us. Since our entry into India, Audi has tried to reach out to target customers through launch of class-defining models, manpower expansion and strengthening of our dealer network not only in metros, but also in tier II & tier III cities of India. I want to take this opportunity to thank Audi enthusiasts for the appreciation towards our pioneering products and Audi India family for their stellar performance,” added Perschke.

Audi has continued with its product and dealership expansion strategy in 2013, having already opened two showrooms in Mumbai South and Lucknow. It has further strengthened its product portfolio with four new product launches—the new Audi Q5, new Audi R8, the 2.0 TFSI variant of the Audi Q3 and the Audi R8 V10 plus.
