Even as the people enjoy their food, the meat production on an industrial scale is taking a toll on the environment.

By some estimates, Americans and Europeans consume meat products regularly. Even as the people enjoy their food, the meat production on an industrial scale is taking a toll on the environment. The Silicon Valley, however, claims to have found a solution to this problem. Uma Valeti, the CEO and co-founder of Memphis Meats, is playing a key role in tackling the issue.

Using advanced technology, Memphis Meats uses meat cells to artificially grow meat in factories without actually killing animals. The meat tastes the same, but is free of contaminants. It uses almost 90 per cent less carbon emissions. A cardiologist, Valeti has an MBBS degree from the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry, and an internal medicine degree from the State University of New York in Buffalo. He also has a degree in cardiology from the Mayo School of Health Sciences.

After working as the president of American College of Cardiology and the as the director of cardiovascular imaging at the University of Minnesota, Valeti founded Memphis Meats in San Fransisco, and is hoping to bring their meat products to the market in the near future.
