Tech Guru │ Venkata Murthy Renduchintala

Ten years ago, one would have been hard-pressed to find a single computer without the blue ‘Intel Inside’ logo on it. Now, as everyone uses super computer in their pockets, those billions of smartphones miss the Intel chips.

With the smartphone being the first technology that sells to almost everyone on the planet, Intel wants to be the leader in any ecosystems that are bound to grow up again around the phone.

But to gain that expertise, the company needed an executive who led another chip giant Qualcomm to become the biggest player in smartphones. Keeping that in mind, the company brought in the vastly experienced Venkata Murthy Renduchintala as new executive vice-president last year.

Murthy, who was previously with Qualcomm for nearly two decades, has a Bachelor of Engineering degree, an MBA and a PhD from the University of Bradford, US, and has spent most of his working life at Qualcomm.

In his time there as a senior vice-president, Murthy took Qualcomm from a bit player in chips to the biggest maker of wireless modems and processors used in smartphones around the world.

Now at Intel, Murthy is responsible for all the ‘client’ products, which Intel describes not only as the chips used in products like PCs, smartphones and tablets, but also those which would be used in all the Internet-related devices.
