After several hours of debate in the Lok Sabha today, the no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi government was defeated with 325 MPs voting against the motion.
Out of all the 451 participating MPs, only 126 MPs voted in favour of the motion.
The 12- hour long debate witnessed Opposition leaders, Rahul Gandhi and others packing punches at Prime Minister Modi and his government. The Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre faced its first no-trust vote in the Lok Sabha on Friday but has more than enough numbers to prove its strength. As for the Opposition, this was their first unity test.
Narendra Modi also took a dig at Rahul Gandhi for his surprising walk across the aisle and hug, saying that it showed that the Congress chief was in a hurry to unseat him. “Some people are in a rush to get to the treasury benches. What is your hurry? Only 125 crore people of this country can do that,” he said.
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Wednesday admitted a no-confidence motion moved by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) member Kesineni Sriniwas on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament.
Among the key issues, Congress and other Opposition parties will highlight during the No-confidence Motion debate to attack the Modi government will be joblessness, farm crisis, women’s safety, lynchings, corruption and atrocities against Dalits. The Opposition will also press for the Women’s Reservation Bill.
