With a whopping 95,735 fresh infections, the world's second-worst affected India, reported its highest daily surge ever with its tally breaching 44 lakh. The country also recorded 1,172 deaths on Thursday.

The total case tally stands at 44,65,864 including 9,19,018 active cases, 34,71,784 cured/discharged/migrated & 75062 deaths, according to Ministry of Health data.

Meanwhile, a grim global milestone was also reported today as the worldwide toll due to the virus crossed the 9 lakh mark, according to Johns Hopkins tally.

The death toll now stands at 901,050 with 27.7 million total cases and 18.6 million recoveries.

Meanwhile, Sikkim reported 20 fresh coronavirus cases on Thursday, which pushed the tally in the state to 2010.

Nagpur update

Nagpur district registered 1,934 new coronavirus patients, taking its caseload to 46,490 on Thursday, the local administration said. The district recorded 58 fresh coronavirus deaths, pushing up the toll to 1,516, a District Information Office release said.

Chhattisgarh records 16 deaths

With 2,227 new COVID-19casesand 16 fresh deaths, Chhattisgarhs total count rose to 55,680 and the toll to 493 on Thursday, a health official said. The day also saw discharge of 1,345 patients from hospitals, taking the total number of recoveries to 25,855, he said.

74 Pakistanis repatriated

As many as 74 Pakistanis, stranded in different Indian cities due to COVID-19 pandemic, were repatriated to Pakistan via the Attari-Wagah border, the Pakistan High Commission here said. Since March 20, more than 760 stranded Pakistanis have returned home, it said in a statement.

The state on Thursday reported its sharpest single-day spike of 2,591 COVID-19 infections which pushed the state's case count to 85,944, while 25 more people succumbed to the disease, taking the toll to 907, the health department's daily bulletin said.

Rajasthan govt fixes hotel room charges for asymptomatic patients

The government has authorised hotel rooms for Rs 5,000, Rs 4,000 and Rs 3,000 per day, which will provide all necessary and medical facilities to patients of this category, Sharma said. Those who do not have any symptoms and whose condition is not critical but need monitoring of doctors and separate rooms can avail medical facilities in hotels, Sharma said in a statement.

319 new cases in Himachal

Three more persons died of coronavirus in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday taking the death toll to 65, while 319 fresh cases pushed the state's infection tally to 8,467, the Health department said. The number of active cases in the state has now risen to 2,723, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) R D Dhiman said.

Gujarat's Ahmedabad district recorded 167 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its tally to 33,204 on Thursday, the state Health Department said. Out of these 167 new cases, 148 were from Ahmedabad city and 19 from the rural parts of the district, said a release by the Health Department.

As many as 639 persons tested positive for coronavirus, while six persons died of the infection in Goa on Thursday, a health official said. With the addition of the latest cases, the tally in the coastal state has risen to 22,890, the official said.

This is the highest single-day spike so far, as the tally breached the 2.05-lakh mark in the city, where a record 58,340 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, authorities said.

COVID cases in Dharavi rises to 2850

The tally of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai's slum colony of Dharavi increased to 2,850 on Thursday with 11 more persons testing positive for the infection, the city civic body said. A senior Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said 2,478 patients from Dharavi have already recovered and discharged from hospitals. According to the official, at present the slum- dominated area has 102 active COVID-19 cases.

    More cats may have COVID-19 than believed: Study

    The study, published in the peer-reviewed journal Emerging Microbes & Infections, showed COVID-19 antibodies present in 15 of the blood samples taken from the cats. It found that of these, 11 cats had neutralising antibodies -- proteins that bind so successfully to a virus they block the infection. The study shows cats are fighting off the virus with naturally developed antibodies, however, they could be at risk of reinfection.

    The Telangana government would appoint a task force committee to monitor the fees being charged by private hospitals for COVID-19 treatment, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said on Wednesday. He assured members that tough action would be taken against those hospitals trying to fleece patients.

    53 deaths in West Bengal

    The COVID-19 death toll in West Bengal rose to 3,730 on Wednesday with 53 more people succumbing to the disease, a bulletin released by the state health department said. The tally also went up to 1,90,063 after 3,107 fresh cases of infection were registered in different parts of the state, it said.

  • After nearly 40 personnel at the Chief Minister's Office and his residence tested positive for COVID-19 in the last few days, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has decided not to meet people for the next one month, according to a release.
  • "As per the advice of doctors, the chief minister has decided not to meet people for the next one month. During this time he will participate only through video conference," a release said.
  • Nearly 40 personnel of the CMO and the Chief Minister's Residence (CMR) including some security staff have tested positive for the novel coronavirus over the last few days.
  • The chief minister also appealed to the people to follow social distancing norms, wear face masks and take all precautions to stay safe from the coronavirus.
