With a whopping 95,735 fresh infections, the world's second-worst affected India, reported its highest daily surge ever with its tally breaching 44 lakh. The country also recorded 1,172 deaths on Thursday.
The total case tally stands at 44,65,864 including 9,19,018 active cases, 34,71,784 cured/discharged/migrated & 75062 deaths, according to Ministry of Health data.
Meanwhile, a grim global milestone was also reported today as the worldwide toll due to the virus crossed the 9 lakh mark, according to Johns Hopkins tally.
The death toll now stands at 901,050 with 27.7 million total cases and 18.6 million recoveries.

Meanwhile, Sikkim reported 20 fresh coronavirus cases on Thursday, which pushed the tally in the state to 2010.
Nagpur district registered 1,934 new coronavirus patients, taking its caseload to 46,490 on Thursday, the local administration said. The district recorded 58 fresh coronavirus deaths, pushing up the toll to 1,516, a District Information Office release said.
With 2,227 new COVID-19casesand 16 fresh deaths, Chhattisgarhs total count rose to 55,680 and the toll to 493 on Thursday, a health official said. The day also saw discharge of 1,345 patients from hospitals, taking the total number of recoveries to 25,855, he said.
As many as 74 Pakistanis, stranded in different Indian cities due to COVID-19 pandemic, were repatriated to Pakistan via the Attari-Wagah border, the Pakistan High Commission here said. Since March 20, more than 760 stranded Pakistanis have returned home, it said in a statement.

While three persons from the city died due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, one death was reported from the rural parts, taking the death toll to 855 in the district.
The state on Thursday reported its sharpest single-day spike of 2,591 COVID-19 infections which pushed the state's case count to 85,944, while 25 more people succumbed to the disease, taking the toll to 907, the health department's daily bulletin said.
The government has authorised hotel rooms for Rs 5,000, Rs 4,000 and Rs 3,000 per day, which will provide all necessary and medical facilities to patients of this category, Sharma said. Those who do not have any symptoms and whose condition is not critical but need monitoring of doctors and separate rooms can avail medical facilities in hotels, Sharma said in a statement.
Three more persons died of coronavirus in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday taking the death toll to 65, while 319 fresh cases pushed the state's infection tally to 8,467, the Health department said. The number of active cases in the state has now risen to 2,723, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) R D Dhiman said.

Gujarat's Ahmedabad district recorded 167 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its tally to 33,204 on Thursday, the state Health Department said. Out of these 167 new cases, 148 were from Ahmedabad city and 19 from the rural parts of the district, said a release by the Health Department.

As many as 639 persons tested positive for coronavirus, while six persons died of the infection in Goa on Thursday, a health official said. With the addition of the latest cases, the tally in the coastal state has risen to 22,890, the official said.
This is the highest single-day spike so far, as the tally breached the 2.05-lakh mark in the city, where a record 58,340 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, authorities said.
As many as 261 people, including 216 security personnel, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Nagaland on Thursday, taking the state's caseload to 4,636, Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said.

With single-day addition of 1,465 COVID-19 cases, the count in Maharashtra's Nashik district reached 49,209 on Thursday, a health official said. This is the third consecutive day that the district recorded over 1,400 cases. 29 patients succumbed to the infection, taking the toll in the district to 1,020, the official said.
As many as 1,332 more persons tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours in Gujarat, taking the statewide tally to 1,09,627 on Thursday, the Health Department said. With the second highest daily increase of 1,332, Gujarat's tally of positive cases touched 1,09,627, the Health Department said in a release.
As per a circular issued by the Registrar General of the High Court on Wednesday, even virtual hearings of the court have been suspended till September 16. Notably, only important and urgent matters are being heard by the High Court via video-conferencing in view of the coronavirus outbreak, while the staff continued to visit the premises for routine judicial work.

The tally of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai's slum colony of Dharavi increased to 2,850 on Thursday with 11 more persons testing positive for the infection, the city civic body said. A senior Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said 2,478 patients from Dharavi have already recovered and discharged from hospitals. Haryana reported the biggest single-day jump of 2,294 fresh COVID-19 infections and 28 deaths on Wednesday, taking the state's case count to 83,353 and toll to 882, according to the health department's daily bulletin.
The COVID-19 tally in Ahmedabad district crossed the 33,000 mark and reached 33,037 on Wednesday with addition of 171 new cases, Gujarat health department said. The cumulative death toll rose to 1,760 with four new fatalities, it said.
The fresh cases took the district's total number of active cases to 961, officials said on Wednesday. The new cases include four bank employees and two health workers of the district hospital, they said.

The Telangana government would appoint a task force committee to monitor the fees being charged by private hospitals for COVID-19 treatment, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said on Wednesday. He assured members that tough action would be taken against those hospitals trying to fleece patients.
The COVID-19 death toll in West Bengal rose to 3,730 on Wednesday with 53 more people succumbing to the disease, a bulletin released by the state health department said. The tally also went up to 1,90,063 after 3,107 fresh cases of infection were registered in different parts of the state, it said.

UP's Gautam Buddh Nagar on Wednesday recorded one more fatality linked to COVID-19, pushing the district's death toll to 48, official data showed. The district also recorded 238 new patients, the biggest single-day surge yet, and the infection tally reached 9,356, according to the data released by the UP Health Department for a 24-hour period.
Sixty-six more people died of COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh, pushing the death toll to 4,112, while 6,711 fresh cases took the state's infection tally to 2,85,041, according to an official bulletin issued here on Wednesday. The total number of active coronavirus cases in the state now stands at 64,028, it said.
