As counting of votes comes to a close in Tamil Nadu, the dream-come-true moment for DMK arrived with a huge mandate paving the way for M. K. Stalin to become the Chief Minister.
DMK president Stalin, on Sunday thanked the people for voting his party to power and assured them that he would truthfully work for them.
Stalin expressed his 'heartfelt thanks' to all the people of Tamil Nadu for mandating his party to govern the state for the sixth time.
DMK which is set to return to power in the state after 10 long years has sealed a majority on its own, where 118 is the minimum number required for a simple majority in the 234-member House.
Marking a win for BJP, its candidate Vanathi Srinivasan defeated MNM founder Kamal Haasan in Coimbatore South by a narrow margin of 1,352 votes.
Meanwhile, current CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami has won from home turf Edappadi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Stalin for the party's victory in the elections and added that they would work together 'to enhance national progress.'
Cadres earlier in the day went ecstatic with the trends, burst crackers and distributed sweets at party headquartes 'Anna Arivalayam' in Chennai, apparently in violation of COVID-19 guidelines.

School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan won for the ninth time contesting from Gobichettipalayam constituency since 1980. He polled more than 20,000 votes more than DMK candidate Manimaran.

There is a fray in the edge between DMK and ADMK in Mettupalayam Constituency where the only constituency out of Ten Constituencies in Coimbatore district, DMK is leading so far. At the end of 12th round, DMK candidate TR Shanmugasundaram is leading by only 230 votes margin difference against ADMK candidate AK Selvaraj. Vote counting briefly stopped for Virugambakkam constituency in Chennai as only one door was open. Party agents and others started banging the other doors. Officials at the counting center stopped counting and called the police.
Counting of postal ballots delayed by one hour in Karur Assembly constituency owing to a date issue. As dates weren't mentioned in few postal ballots, AIADMK agents demanded the officials to put them in doubtful.
But the DMK representatives opposed it. As a quarrel broke out between two party workers, the counting was stopped.
Karur assembly constituency Returning Officer Balasubramanian arrived at the booth and cleared the air. The counting was later resumed by 9 am.
In Komarapalayam, AIADMK leader P Thangamani leads in first round with 3647 votes.
