The truth about Trump is that he is a liar

Donald Trump is a dishonest man. Congressional hearings, investigations and wiretaps prove it. This week’s lie, by the man who has been recorded as having uttered over 10,000 falsehoods until now, was that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought Trumpian intervention on Kashmir: “And he (Modi) actually said, ‘Would you like to be the mediator or arbitrator?’ I said, ‘Where?’ He said, ‘Kashmir’.”

The embarrassed State Department quickly swore that Kashmir is a purely bilateral issue. Capitol Hill was in a pickle after getting an angry response from USA’s most important South Asian ally and counter to the China-Pak axis and terror.

It is after years that India’s Kashmir policy is finally on track, with government aid, realpolitik and hard military force working in tandem to bring normalcy. The 2016 surgical strikes and Balakot air raids are extensions of Modi’s Kashmir strategy. No Centrally funded interlocutors any more: the political will to junk Article 370 and acknowledgement of the interests of Ladakh and Jammu as part of the national interest mean that Modi means business. It is no surprise that a real estate hustler like Trump doesn’t get the nuances of historical conflict. He lives in cuckoo land.

For the first time since 1789, American foreign policy is run on Twitter; a cell phone in its president’s hand is more dangerous than a Russian missile. Trump is legacy obsessed like any world leader. He fails because he is just a brash fixer seeking an exalted place in history; the ill-fated denuclearisation dalliance with North Korean despot Kim Jong Un has shamed America.

Trump wants a war with Iran to stoke a patriotic wave at home; he prevaricated about calling off a missile strike on Teheran to save civilian lives.  Political leaders like to be perceived as upholders of the truth, at least in public. Trump has his own version of truth. The past four White House years are a sad load of untruths, racism, intimidation and obstruction of the legal process by an evil degenerate.

Trump denied his friendship with child molester and trafficker Jeffrey Epstein who is currently in jail. A video showing both men salivating over young girls dancing at Trump’s party surfaced, thus casting doubts on his moral compass. He fibbed about bribing former porn star lover Stormy Daniels. He has claimed that Democrats executed babies.

Last week, fans at a North Carolina campaign rally echoed their idol’s tweet asking Somalia-born Congresswoman Ilhan Omar to “go back home” to Africa; Trump lied that he asked them to stop. He has been denying collusion with Russia to steal the 2016 election, though the Mueller probe refused to exonerate him. Trump has constantly defied the law by refusing to produce his tax returns.Richard Nixon, who was impeached for the Watergate cover-up, famously declared, “I’m not a crook”. Trump may cry out all he wants that “I’m not a liar”. Who will believe him? Imran Khan?
