MUMBAI: On the eve of the winter Assembly session, which is likely to be stormy over the Adarsh housing scam and Lavasa hill station project row, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan assured social worker Anna Hazare that the government would probe the alleged irregularities in Lavasa project and toll collection in the State.
Following the Chief Minister’s assurance at the meeting between the two held in Nagpur, Hazare deferred his agitation for three months.
Chavan bought peace with the social worker as the Congress-NCP Government led by him is set to face severe criticism on several issues of corrpution from Oppostion Shiv Sena-BJP at the Assembly session beginning on Wednesday in Nagpur.
According to Hazare, Chavan has agreed to appoint two separate commissions to probe the illegal allotment of 145 hectares of land belonging to Krishna Valley Irrigation Project to the developers of Lavasa project and irregularities in toll collection across the state.
Hazare said the probe would also cover allotment of additional 372 hectares of land from Krishna Valley project to Lavasa.
He had earlier threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike from December 1 raising the two issues.
Hazare also urged the Chief Minister to computerise the entire system of recording of the entry of vehicles and the toll collection for bringing in transparency.
All construction works in the Lavasa hill station in Pune by the Lavasa Corporation Limited has been stopped after the Union Environment Ministry served a show cause notice to the company to reply within 15 days why the unauthorised structures should not be demolished.
