MUMBAI: Three days ahead of the second anniversary of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist awaiting confirmation of the death sentence, got an unexpected chance to vent his feelings to none other than the Home Minister of the state.

According to Home Minister R R Patil, who went visiting the Arthur Road Prison where Kasab is incarcerated, along with Eknath Khadse, Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, Kasab did not speak much but said, “I am reaping what I sowed.”

It seemed to a very unlikely statement from a usually canny jihadi killer, who has been held responsible for the killings of over four dozen innocent citizens and is know for his tantrums. Even now, when he is being produced via a video conferencing link on the jail premises, he often gets angry and has even spat at the camera and walked away from the proceedings.

When asked why was he visiting the prison, Patil said it was a routine visit to check the conditions of the prisoners in the wake of some complains. He said in the course of visiting all the barracks and prisoners they met Kasab. “I did not want to speak to him, nor did he did speak much but he told Khadse that he was reaping what he sowed. Otherwise, he said that things were okay in the prison and he had no problems,” Patil said.

Patil said that though the condition of the prison was good, it was overcrowded. Arthur Road Jail, which is the central prison of Mumbai city, has a capacity of lodging 781 prisoners, but has around 2,000 prisoners lodged. The Prison is notorious for high-profile prisoners owing allegiance to several big underworld gangs like Dawood Ibrahim, Chotta Rajan, Arun Gawli and a few suspected Pakistani terrorists.
